With about 15 minutes to go, Yakubu shot from 20 yards out, an attempt that Schwarzer had difficulty with, but managed to save. Five minutes later, Schwarzer was faster to stifle a very good Yak chance.

Arguably the best chance of the game came in the final seconds of injury time. Rather than him being fed and scoring, Yak tapped a gentle back pass to the Fulham keeper, after Fellaini had set him up with a golden opportunity to clinch the win for Everton.
