Everton's first win, 2:0 away to Birmingham City

A satisfied Moyes, talking after the match:

"At half-time I was thinking 'here we go again', but we got the own goal and it got us off and running."

Relief all around as we finally made our control of matches yield the biggest reward [3 points]. It's October and we've just got our first win.

The first of the brace came on 54 minutes when Birmingham's Johnson netted an own goal from a Leon cross, before Cahill doubled the lead with a second, deeeep into stoppage time.

We could have had a half-time lead though, as Yak fluffed a golden chance. Baines went down twice in the penalty box only to see his appeals ignored. At least one was a definite penalty, wait until you see it on MOTD [probably the last game they'll show in tonight's programme, haha].

Cahill did look uncomfortable and in pain throughout.

Moyes said on Sky:

"I thought he looked a bit injured - he was carrying his knee, I don't think he's fully fit yet but he's played and come through 90 minutes and scored. I think there is more to come from him with his general fitness and his knee."

Today's win ended a very long unbeaten run at home for the Brummies, a club record-equalling run of 18 league games unbeaten at home in 12 months.

Throughout the season, we have in parts of most games, shown the most ambition and invention [Newcastle and Brentford apart]. That continued today and it's a relief to see order being restored and the reward of 3 points being achieved.

Arteta was arguably man of the match, he ran the midfield and at times Birmingham looked bewildered by him.

Jagielka had a very good game also and was resolute throughout.

Nice timing this, with the Derby coming up fast...
